#OurDumbSenator is concerned about an “environmental jihad”
Professor of Environmental Studies The guy who said climate change is caused by sunspots, #OurDumbSenator Ron Johnson, got nailed this week for rolling his eyes at science, which led him to double down on absurdity:
This week, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) launched a $2 million ad campaign to get climate change deniers like Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson to accept the science and take action to curb global warming. But before even seeing the ad, Senator Johnson lashed out by calling LCV “an extreme left group on an environmental jihad.”

Latest Statements from U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson Show He Needs to Go Back to School on Student Loan Debt Crisis
With the United States Senate preparing to act on legislation reversing the recent doubling of interest rates on federal student loans and enacting a new method of calculating interest rates in the future, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson has shared his thoughts on the student loan debt crisis. The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross in reaction to Johnson’s apparent inability to recognize the seriousness of the trillion-dollar student loan debt crisis and the need for comprehensive solutions:
"U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson’s recent statements on the $1.2 trillion student loan debt crisis are as offensive as they are ill-informed. Temporarily lowering interest rates on federal student loans doesn’t ‘once and for all’ solve the student loan debt crisis, more profiteering private colleges won’t magically stem skyrocketing tuition, and hard-working students and their families shouldn’t have to lower their expectations for higher education or a fair shot at the American dream.
"He needs to go back to school on how this crisis is squeezing American families and hurting our economy.
"Students, graduates and their families have done the right thing. They’ve worked hard and taken on the responsibility for funding the education they need to get ahead. They’re not asking for a bailout. But they deserve a system that treats them fairly and doesn’t turn their education into a multi-decade debt sentence.
"Our research at One Wisconsin Institute found the average length of student loan debt is nearly 20 years, even for graduates of technical colleges. And that student loan debt is making it harder for families to do things like buy their own home or purchase a new vehicle.
"Student loan debt is the second biggest form of consumer debt in the nation. With tuition continuing to skyrocket and big banks and the federal government making billions in profits on the interest on student loans.
"We need real solutions, not more empty platitudes and ill-informed opinions from Sen. Johnson if we are to resolve this crisis.
"To stop the trillion dollar student loan debt crisis from becoming a two trillion dollar albatross on the American economy we need common sense solutions like allowing people to refinance their student loan, like they can a mortgage, deduct the interest on their student loans from their taxes and limit tuition increases to the rate of inflation."
Said federal health care reform is taking health care in the wrong direction
Johnson said federal health care reform is taking health care in the wrong direction. He said health care’s ills date to the 1940s, when employers began adding health insurance as an employee benefit and paying for it.
“We began the process of separating the consumer of the process from the payment of the process,” he said.
#OurDumbSenator feels like a victim, gets letter from One WI Now
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel post about Sen. Ron Johnson’s foray into filmmakery mentions One Wisconsin Now’s open letter to #OurDumbSenator. Check it out::
One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross sent the following letter to U.S. Senator Ron Johnson regarding his recently announced “Victims of Government” video series.
March 27, 2013
United States Senator Ron Johnson
386 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Johnson,
I read with interest the news report of your “Victims of Government” video series. After watching the video associated with your project, produced by your taxpayer funded government office, I am inspired to inquire who else you and your Republican colleagues are so courageously seeking to protect from becoming “victims” of government.
Maybe it is the cancer survivor being victimized by the “excessive regulations” that prohibit an insurance company from denying them insurance coverage for a pre-existing condition?
Is it the student trying to afford a higher education whose freedom to pay higher interest rates on their student loan is being stolen away by government subsidies?
Perhaps it is the senior citizen missing out on the opportunity to pay more for their life-saving prescription drugs that is unfairly oppressed by the heavy hand of government?
Spending your time, and our money, producing YouTube videos doesn’t move us one iota closer to solving any of the challenges facing our nation. In fact it seems the real victims of government are your constituents who were counting on you to work for them in the United States Senate.
Executive Director, One Wisconsin Now
P.S. On behalf of the taxpayers of Wisconsin who pay your salary and for your office, I’m wondering just how much of our money is being spent on your latest inanity?
Sez librul schools haz dumbed down ‘Murica since the 1830s
This is what #ourdumbsenator has to say about lernin in ‘Murica’s schools…
I don’t know how many of you saw Dr. Benjamin Carson, but one of the points he made in his phenomenal speech was how, back in the 1800s, the tests they gave sixth graders upon graduation, most college graduates couldn’t pass that test anymore. We’ve purposely dumbed down our population. As a result of that, our population is very susceptible to demagoguery and that’s what you’re seeing. So what we’re facing now in this country is we’re facing a president that is basically a demagogue. That’s… that’s the problem.
Sounds like somebody must have spent a lot of time in school. Ayo!
But seriously folks, Jud Lounsbury at Uppity Wisconsin has more.
Actually Said Violence Against Women Act is Unconstitutional
The [Violence Against Women Act] authorizes $659 million over five years for VAWA programs. It also includes new protections for LGBT and Native American victims of domestic violence. Since VAWA was created in 1994, it has bolstered protections for victims of domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.
Constitutional scholar #OurDumbSenator Ron Johnson says it’s unconstitutional.
"Doubles Down on Dumb"
via Cognitive Dissidence:
RoJo made sure it was clear that he was in direct competition with Joe McCarthy as being the worst senator in Wisconsin history with this bit of idiocy:
"Let me describe what we’re up against as conservatives, as patriots, as people who like freedom, as people who like this country," Johnson said. "We are up against a strategy that is taking place by liberals, progressives, Democrats, whatever they call themselves nowadays, Socialists, Marxists."
Opposed Violence Against Women Act
For the record, the five senators who took an inexplicable stand against a measure to combat human trafficking were Republican Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.).
As for the final vote on VAWA, all 22 votes against the proposal were Republican men.
*Hearts* Ayn Rand Soooo Much, He Bought a Statue
His affinity for [Tea Party & Satanism icon, Ayn Rand] has literally been set in stone—the former PACUR* CEO helped a friend install a statute of Atlas in Oshkosh, Wis. “There was a big old statue on the side of the road for sale, and it was Atlas,” Johnson says. “It had the world, it was obviously the Atlas Shrugged symbol, and he was thinking about buying it and I said, absolutely, I’ll pay for half of it.”
Buyin’ statues: it’s what regular folks do.

At John Kerry’s somnolent confirmation hearing for Secretary of State on Thursday, Kerry showed up Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Galt’s Gulch), on the latter’s very serious public crusade to get to the bottom of the killing of the American Ambassador in Benghazi — revealing that Johnson himself didn’t attend the intelligence briefing.
